The first day I arrived,
the foundation preparations were under way. The ground was scraped down
approximately one foot with a bulldozer and a Case 1845c skid steer. The area of the proposed building was
cleared of all organic material.
Before they began filling the site, a plastic Terratek woven tarp was
spread across the ground to separate the scraped ground from the crushed
concrete fill. Once the woven
plastic was in place, the dump trucks began to arrive. The dump trucks dumped 20 15 yard loads
of crushed concrete. The concrete
was no larger than 1.5” in diameter.
After the first 20 loads were dumped, the area was then 1 foot higher
than before and a piece of Terratek plastic screen with 1 inch openings was
rolled out over the top of the fill material. After the fencing was in place, the dump
trucks began arriving again. 20
more loads were dumped and spread.
There were two 15 yard dump trucks bringing the material from a location
that is less than 2 miles from the worksite. With two trucks and it being such a
short distance, the dumping was a relatively quick
process.
Figures 1 & 2:
The first foot of
crushed concrete was spread with the bulldozer. The plastic fencing was then spread
across the area and three more loads were spread.

Figures 3 & 4: Two fifteen yard dump
trucks delivered the crushed concrete from a nearby paving company and a case
850 Long Track bulldozer was used to spread the crushed
concrete.

Figures 4&5: A laser was used to set
even stakes around the property for a visual reference to make an even
grade.
